SEXUALITY IN NEURODIVERGENT PEOPLE: AN INVISIBLE TOPIC

Objective: to identify the perceptions that neurodivergent people have about sexuality and the sexual health care they receive.
Method: a mixed exploratory-descriptive study, with a pilot sample of 36 adult participants identified as neurodivergent. A self-constructed survey was applied with sociodemographic data and data on perceptions in relation to sexuality. Descriptive and content analyses were performed.
Results: age 26.8 +/- 7.1 years, 33.33% identified themselves as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder only, 77.78% identify as cis women and 50% are heterosexual. Regarding health care, 30.6% have experienced some form of discrimination, 63.9% consider that sexuality in the community is stigmatized. The narratives reflected difficulties in sexuality in areas such as communication and the interpretation of non-verbal language. In addition, they expressed the importance of more personalized and inclusive sexual health care that takes into account their specific needs.
Conclusion: neurodivergent people have difficulty experiencing their sexuality, talking about this topic, and perceiving inclusive health care.
