Adherence to antiretroviral treatment of adults living with vih / sida

Introduction: Lack of adherence to antiretroviral treatment is a recurring problem both in Chile and in the world. End AIDS requires uninterrupted access to treatment for life. The lack of adherence deprives the user of obtaining the benefits provided by medical treatments and therefore its determination constitutes a tool that allows a favorable prognosis or not of the expected results. Objective: To describe adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) in the adult population. Material and Method: Quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive study. On-line SMAQ questionnaire was applied to 22 subjects belonging to a group of people living with HIV / AIDS after signing the informed consent. Approved by the Scientific Ethics Committee of the Santo Tomás University. Results: 77.3% of the participants turned out not to be adherent to ART. 59.1% of people did forget to take their medication more than once, di not respect the indicated
schedule and stopped taking it when they felt bad, while 90.9% of the subjects did not forget to take their medication during the weekend. Conclusion: It was established that poor adherence to ART is a complex, multidimensional public health problem that is increasing, so it requires the intervention of the Nursing professional, improving the therapeutic relationship between professional and user, as well as improving patient skills. communication, carry out an exhaustive
